Sound Baths

May 15

Just as nature enters a cycle of renewal, growth and expansion in Spring, so does the energy within us. Embrace the opportunity to shed old, unwanted layers and make a conscious choice to begin again. As we emerge from the dark period of winter and return to the budding of new life, the days become longer and we have the opportunity to restore ourselves physically and energetically with the aid of sound meditation.

During this meditative practice, harmonious sound waves fill the space as you relax on a yoga mat or seated in a chair, and receive vibrational medicine from crystal singing bowls, gongs, drums and chimes. Deep relaxation is one of the most significant benefits you will receive as the sounds permeate your system, activating the body’s system of self-healing and returning it back to harmony. The sounds from the instruments produce a calming effect that slow down the brainwaves for restoration and rejuvenation.

Self-Defense for Women

May 1

6:00pm to 7:30pm

With Gale Bryan

Learn to protect yourself at this presentation covering awareness and prevention, the pros and cons of pepper spray, how to use household items as improvised weapons and how to defend yourself with a cane called "Cane Fu."

Includes a demonstration of 25 simple techniques to defend against those attacks most likely to occur in an assault situation: wrist grabs, chokes, holds, bear hugs, head locks, hair pulls and how to fight from the ground. Whatever your age or physical ability, these techniques are simple to learn, easy to remember, yet effective enough to incapacitate an attacker.

Leave this class feeling empowered, knowing that your best weapon against assault is your own body. This class is suitable for ages 11+, (only because younger children may get bored with the lecture portion.) Girls 16-25 are the most victimized. Men also can benefit from this class, as they are more often the victims of violent crime and may need to defend their families.
