Our aim in the nursery is to provide a safe, loving space for our youngest members to explore creative play, color, movement and music.
Meditation, yoga, music, crafts, discussion, creative play, games, weekly challenges and group projects are used to explore a common theme throughout all our classes. The Unity principles and practices are introduced in fun, accessible ways that help empower children to apply what they learn in their daily lives.
UNITEENS (Middle School)
11-14 years old
The overall aim for the Uniteens group is to provide a supportive space for children to grow personally and spiritually as they transition into their teen years. Students are facilitated in “learning-through-being”. Some of the core practices we’re currently working with are: communicating effectively, seeing Spirit/God in each other while respecting individual differences, expressing one’s true self safely, learning how to manage personal energy needs, understanding one’s special gifts, learning how to develop them and how to share them in service to the world.
While we maintain a playful atmosphere and continue to teach through games, laughter and hands-on activities, topics are explored in greater depth and complexity, journaling is introduced, and more active responsibility is encouraged in helping to co-create the curriculum.
Other social, spiritual and service opportunities for the Uniteens group throughout the year include:
- evening events
- participation in regional events with other Uniteens groups
15-18 years old
Our program for high school youth (ages 14 to 18 yrs) is called Youth of Unity or Y.O.U. for short.
The YOU group is run largely by the teens themselves and facilitated by a team of devoted, adult sponsors who are active members of our community. Sponsors attend the 9am service and then lead a discussion of the themes explored during Rev. Wendy’s talk. In addition to open forums, journaling, meditation and exploration of the Unity principles and practices in greater depth, the YOU actively co-create and participate in leadership and service projects throughout the year.
